Multi-region active-active without losing your mind

Running active-active across three cloud providers used to mean rewriting your data layer. Modern primitives change the playbook.

Active-active sounds simple in architecture diagrams. In production it's a story about clock skew, partial partitions, and the one table you forgot to make region-aware.

We standardized on conflict-free patterns for session state, moved money movement to ledger tables with strict serializability per account, and pushed everything else to eventually consistent read models.

Health checks now validate end-to-end paths — not just pod readiness. Failover drills run monthly with injected latency between regions.

You don't need perfect symmetry across clouds. You need explicit RPO/RTO per domain and the discipline to say no to features that break them.
